DOWNTOWN PARADES 2010 Schedule

  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Sat. March 13 – 10:30 am
  • Labor Day Parade –Mon. September 6 – 10:00 am
  • African American Heritage Day Parade – Sat. October 2 – 11am to 1pm
  • Columbus Day Parade – Saturday, October 9– 10:00 am –  Bloomfield

Cars – A Waste of Space

Now that you live Downtown, you don’t feel as connected to your car, do you?  Why would you?  You can walk faster and cheaper to almost everywhere within 2 miles than you can drive and park there.  This makes me wonder, “Is my car worth the cost?

Bus Fare Changes Take Effect Jan. 1

New fares and fare zones for Port Authority of Allegheny County transit services go into effect on Jan. 1, 2010.bus passes

The Downtowner Zone (the package for trips to Station Square or the North Shore from Downtown) and Zone 3 will be eliminated and absorbed into Zone 1 and Zone 2, respectively.  Read the rest of this entry »

Veteran’s Day Parade Route

The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

Effective Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), 2009 From Approximately 9:30 AM Until 2:00 PM (Setup to begin at Melody Tent Site at 8:30 AM)

 The City of Pittsburgh has provided a permit to the Federation of War Veterans Societies of Allegheny County to hold its annual Veterans’ Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

 Setup for the parade will begin at the Melody Tent site above the Mellon Arena at 8:30 AM.

PORT AUTHORITY APPROVES CHANGES

PAT logoPort Authority of Allegheny County approved plans on Friday, October 23, 2009, that will bring sweeping improvements to its route system and fare levels starting in 2010.

The Authority’s Board of Directors approved changes to its bus and light rail system that will be phased in over the next two years. The first route changes

City Plans for Bicycle Route Plan

CITY RELEASES RFP FOR BICYLE ROUTE AND SIGNAGE PLAN

 

  (PITTSBURGH) October 15, 2009    Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced today that the Department of City Planning has issued Requests for Proposals (RFP) for a bicycle route and signage plan. The Citywide plan will provide the City with a blue print for developing bicycle routes complete with a wayfinding and destination signage network.City Planning will hire a consultant team to develop the plan that will identify bicycle routes that connect cyclists to the City’s many neighborhoods, business districts, cultural amenities and recreational areas.  The selected routes will be identified and aided by wayfinding and destination signage.The planning process will begin this winter and is expected to be completed by summer of 2010. The plan, which is funded by the City, will be guided by public input and a Steering Committee consisting of City staff, transportation professionals and representatives from community organizations. Once the plan is completed, the City will initiate plans for installation.

The RFP is posted on the Department of City Planning’s website, www.planpgh.com, and on the national and regional American Planning Association websites.

Proposals are due to City Planning by 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th, 2009. The Steering Committee will review and score the plans to select a consultant in December.
